Gay marriage should be a non issue. It’s so disappointing to see all these good people who care about real issues in this world wasting so much energy and time fighting the perceived threat of a world overrun with anal sex.

I have news for them, man-on-man doggie style has been around a lot longer than the institution of marriage. Perhaps marriage was even invented to create a safe place for breeders.

Well, it definitely served its purpose. Almost 7 billion strong and humans have overrun and begun to tax the planet’s resources. Yet despite marriage’s historical exclusion of same-sex couples, the institution is in trouble, with about a 50 percent divorce rate in much of the developed world.

Everyone’s scrambling around proclaiming that we must save marriage from the homosexuals. Seems more likely that as women’s rights have advanced so has a woman’s ability to leave an unhappy marriage, hence, a higher divorce rate. Any kind of saving would be a step backward.

The group behind the passage of Proposition 8, Protect Marriage, writes on their Web site that “California’s constitutional marriage amendment exists to strengthen society, encourage monogamous and loving marriages and to provide the optimal environment to ensure the well being of children.”

The California Marriage Protection Act, or Prop. 8, was passed by 61 percent of voters in November 2008 in an attempt to negate the state’s Supreme Court ruling that to exclude same-sex couples from marriage was unconstitutional. So basically gays couldn’t marry, then they could, then they couldn’t and now we’re not too sure what’s going on.

The big problem for everyone here is the amount of time, energy and money we all as taxpayers are putting into this ridiculous issue.

Firstly, why do gay couples want to be part of an institution that doesn’t want them and has excluded them in almost every culture in history? If we were to create these unions which give all legal rights to gay couples and give the religious people their marriage, it seems like everyone should be happy. Marriage is a straight invention anyway. I can’t picture a black guy suing the KKK because he can’t be a member.

But then again the religiousos’ arguments are pretty weak. How does the method of intercourse determine love and monogamy? And a strong society is supported by emotionally stable and educated members, not people who grow up believing that their desires make them freaks.

In Catholic school you learn that God destroyed two cities, Sodom and Gomorra, in “brimstone and fire” because of homosexuality – that it is an abomination of nature in the eyes of the Creator. Imagine really believing that and you can kind of understand why they are so afraid.

But it’s been a long time since anyone spotted any suspicious-looking brimstone in West Hollywood. God has said many things over the ages, things which many people need to correct in their own lives before attacking others for their perceived disobedience.
